By focusing on the power of free will and the skill of reframing blame and positive options whales are learning autonomy, internal motivation, and improved self regulation. We are focusing on how the only person we can change is ourselves and it is up to us to choose helpful. Check out a video by Dr. Becky Bailey and Shubert's Choice (the book we are reading) below or explore more on the Conscious Discipline website here. |

Good Evening Cacti!
It's finally here! This Thursday is open house. We hope to see all of you there! If you have friends & family photos, you can send them in vie the blue Phoenix Folder or drop them off at open house. Check out the Caring Cacti schedule posted below.
You have hopefully heard about Shubert and noticed some new language or techniques to handle big feelings. This week we are focusing on the skill of positive intent. We are learning to reframe our thoughts and see the best in each other and in ourselves. We then ask what we can do to be helpful to our class brother or sister. We are reading "Shubert Sees the Best" and as the story goes "we'd rather be helpful than hurtful any day." Seeing the best in others allows us to also see the best in ourselves and builds young scholars' self esteem. Positive Intent integrates the brain and produces oxytocin, increasing trust, safety and moral behavior. Check out some examples below.

Hey, Hey Cacti Family!
Reminder that there is no school this Monday. This week we will be learning all about using our Big Voice to problem solve in a respectful, loving way and teach others how we want to be treated. We will be reading Shubert's Big Voice, practicing on the Time Machine Mat, using our best loving eyes (the skill of positive intent), and practicing the assertive voice. Check out some interesting videos about conflict resolution here. You can also watch Shubert's Big Voice below. Be sure to check the WINGTS PTSO page (and join) for upcoming events! We are currently in the process of filling our Friends and Family board. This board supports the foundation of our class family and connects a child's home and school family. Please send in photos of friends and family with your child to add to our board. We suggest sending copies of photos as they will not be returned at the end of the school year. Like photos on our phone or in frames at work, the whales really love having their family showcased. **If you are unable to send photos, you are welcome to email them. We will take care of the printing. ***If you have already sent them in way to go! The pictures will be going up soon! |

Happy Tuesday Cacti. We're continuing to build our school family and practice our routines and procedures. This week we will focus on how to be helpful and we will read "Shubert's Helpful Day." We have used our skills of noticing to recognize kindness in many new ways (including class family jobs). Ask your cactus how they have chosen helpful this week, what extra ways they've shown their own kindness and goodness, and celebrate their brothers and sisters for their success as well.
Please be sure to send back the green card stock decorated with friends and family pictures that was sent home on meet the teacher night. You may also send in a picture to hang on our friends and family wall in our classroom, if you have not done so already. Please ensure your cactus packs a healthy and substantial snack (even if you are dropping lunch off, receive hot lunch, or order PTA lunch). In case you missed the announcement, we had a fire drill and lock down drill this afternoon. Our focus during drills is safety, calm, and that these are just practice. We practice a lot of breathing and remind our cacti that it is always our #1 job to keep each of them safe. We encourage you to check out the following resources for navigating lock downs.
